Future of Omega Strikers FAQ

TL;DR:

  • By the end of this year, the Odyssey team is pivoting to work on new games set in the Omega Strikers universe.
  • Servers will stay on and we’ll continue releasing balance updates for the foreseeable future. We’re also planning to polish up the custom games tool and ship some other quality of life updates before the end of the year.
  • But after this year there won’t be any more new skins, maps, strikers, awakenings, or Striker Passes.
  • Any purchases you made in Omega Strikers will carry over as premium currency granted to you in our next game.
So wait, what’s happening? Is the game shutting down?

Nope! We intend to keep Omega Strikers up and running for the foreseeable future with server support, regular minor balance changes, and bugfixes for major issues. However, at the end of this year we will wind down new content updates for the game and shift our focus to the development of a new game set in the Omega Strikers IP. This means there will be no planned releases of new Strikers, map, modes, Striker Passes, or other major content for Omega Strikers after the end of 2023.

Why was this decision made? Why not continue at least shipping new Strikers?
Despite our best efforts, we haven’t been able to grow Omega Strikers. Although the game has an incredible core community, most players generally stop playing after a few weeks of going hard on the game—and this has been true since our Open Beta over a year ago. We have big dreams for the future of the Omega Strikers universe, and to achieve our ambitions we believe we must focus our efforts on a new title set in the OS world that (we truly hope) you’ll love. Will I be able to continue playing after development ends?
Yes. All platforms and content will remain live after active development ends. In the future we may revisit this question if large technical changes are required to continue running the game on a given platform, but this isn’t a problem we foresee happening any time soon.
What happens between now and the end of the year?
We will be releasing a few patches that include themed events, a new map, and an additional Striker. We are also focusing on quality of life bug fixes and custom match improvements.
Will matchmaking be disabled?
Matchmaking will continue to be supported. We do expect longer wait times as fewer players use this option to start a game, so we’ll support custom lobbies with server selection that allows players to start a match whenever they want. We also intend to add a lobby browser for custom lobbies to make finding a match even easier, and our Discord community server will continue to be a great place to find active lobbies to join.
Will micropatches be released after development ends?
Yes. Our plans are to continue releasing balance updates and map/awakening rotations for as long as there’s significant player interest in these.
Will the store be closing down?
The store will remain active and you will continue being able to make Ody Point purchases to unlock items in Omega Strikers. To show our appreciation for you supporting Odyssey as we develop a new game in the Omega Strikers universe, any money spent on Omega Strikers will be granted back to you as premium currency which you’ll be able to use in our next game.
Are refunds available for Ody Point purchases?
We won’t be offering refunds. However, all purchased content will remain accessible and any money spent on Omega Strikers will be granted back to you as premium currency which you’ll be able to use in our next game.
Will limited content be added back to the store?
No, limited content like Gilded X or event specific emotes will not be available to purchase.
Will player support continue to be available?
Yes, we plan to continue player support for Omega Strikers as normal. After December 2023 you might encounter longer wait times before you receive a response, but we will always give you a response.
Will any bug fixes be deployed after the end of the year?
After the last patch in December, our policy will be to continue fixing any major bugs that prevent players from playing the game.
When will we hear more about the next game?
Join our community server to keep up to date on what we are working on. We plan on developing this game alongside you, which means we will give our existing community access first.
